Competitive Seasons

The seasons described here are for general reference only.  Official practice dates may start the season earlier for older athletes, and the younger teams play a shorter season.  Also please note that the Community Rugby Program only has two 6-week seasons: Late fall (November to mid-December) and early spring (mid-March through April).

Autumn (10 - 12 weeks)
Olympic Sevens (7s) Rugby - starts in early-October and ends mid-December.   Competition is recreational with the focus on skill and team development.  This is a great way for new players to become aquainted with the sport of Rugby and current players to maintain their skills.
Practices are once or twice a week with tournament play once a month.  Many competitions are played within the DFW area.

 Winter/Spring (14-16 weeks)
The season starts mid-January and ends early-May.  Panther City offers two options for participation: 15's Rugby and 7's Rugby.
15's Rugby - is the traditional version of the sport.  With more players on the pitch (field), tackling and other contact maneuvers are a constant part of play.  Matches (games) are 90-minutes long; divided into two 40-minutes halves with a 10-minute break.  Matches are slightly shorter for U19/HS and younger levels.  The season may be extended by qualifying for State, Territorial, & National Championship Tournaments.
DIII 7's Rugby - competitions are played within the DFW area.  Practices are once or twice a week with tournament play once a month.

Spring/Summer (~8 weeks)
TOLA/Select 7's Rugby - is a fast paced, high scoring version of the sport where ball passing and runing speed are key.  Becuase of the continuous sprint work required, matches consist if two 10-minute haves.  Teams generally play multiple matches within a tournament day.   In 2010, Seven's Rugby became an Olympic Sport.
The club season runs mid-May to mid-July ending with a TOLA Championship Tournament for Select-side Teams.  All teams may elect to expand the season with 'social' tournaments hosted by Adult/Senior-level Rugby Clubs.
