Student Presentation to the FWISD Board of Education - Oct, 2019
During the October 8, 2019, FWISD Board of Education meeting four female students voiced opinions and Title IX concerns to the Superintendent and Trustees. In contrast the last time only girls from Trimble Technical HS spoke to the Board, this time a female student from North Side HS, OD Wyatt HS, South Hills HS and Trimble Tech HS spoke.
The evening was definitely a test of determination. The girls, parents and young siblings waited quietly for about 90 minutes listening to District Administrators discuss math curriculum with the Trustees before the meeting was opened for "public comments". It became a much longer evening than thought but these 9th through 12th graders kept it together. With a new Board of Trustees composed of 5 women to 4 males we hope the girls voices are finally heard and supported. Surprising to us, a few of the female trustees broke protocol to take photos of the girls as they spoke. Immediately after the meeting a representative for the District's Office of Legal Services came outside to let us know that the girls voices are being heard. Fingers crossed action follows. |
