Policies on Playing Time
City/Community Development Program (Local Only)
All athletes will play in every match/game. Players will receive equal playing time, except when safety or lack of skill development warrant limited play time.
Metro/Metroplex Program (Limited Travel)
Playing time is based on attendance at practice, then demonstrated skill level. All players will be provided an opprotunity to play during the match (game). As such, selection as a starting player does not give "starter" designation or indicate a coach's preference.
Select-side Program (Full Travel)
Playing time must be earned on the practice field, as well as in competition.
To compete successfully as team - at this level - requires skilled players that are able to function as a unit. As such, preference is provided to those with a strong attendance record at practices and competitions. Every effort will be made, however, to give each player an opportunity to play during a match (game) or tournament. Players and parents should keep in mind that inequities in playing time are part of playing competitive sports. Further, rugby can be a dangerous sport for players that have not sufficiently practiced contact maneuvers (tackling, rucking, scrumming, mauling). Players that desire to see more time on the field must make the commitment to develop themselves and their team through successful practices based on improved fitness and skill acquisition.
Exceptions to the above policy are made for youth (u9, u11, and u13) rugby teams. These players shall be provided equitable playing time to develop their skills. This does not mean equal playing time in every match, but over the season. Some players may not be ready to safely compete against all teams we play against.

Parents concerned about the their child's playing time should discuss this with the coach well before the day of competition. At no time shall it be considered appropraite for a parent to address a coach about play time during the day of a competition.
If a parent and coach are not able to resolve a difference of opinion, the matter should be directed to the Director of Coaching or the President. Note that a decision may take up to 2 weeks and are considered final.
